Zing has a staged program of facilitator training and accreditation. There are three levels: facilitator, trainer and master trainer. Facilitator status is attained after completing one day’s training. Trainers must complete the three-day Trainer Course. Master Trainers become certified when they successfully deliver a three-day course under the supervision of a Master Trainer.

As of January 2003, Zing will be requiring annual re-certification of all facilitators who conduct public sessions to ensure the highest standards of interaction and delivery are maintained.

On-line facilitation looks easy but is especially difficult for most people. The best facilitators become so through considerable practice. The guidance they give participants is clear so people are comfortable using the technology. Their technical expertise is flawless, so people are not distracted by the facilitator’s uncertainty.

Basic Facilitator

Duration: One day
Delivery: Delivered by an accredited Trainer. It is an introduction to on-line facilitation on-site. Participants work or learn in teams of 2-3 people. Course participants receive a 60-page manual and a copy of the Zing software.
Minimum: 6 participants
Course content: Introduction. Demonstration electronic meeting. Basic software skills. Facilitation Techniques. Create a session template. Set-up and troubleshooting. File management

 

Advanced Facilitator

Duration: Two days
Delivery: An accredited Master Trainer delivers the course at the trainer’s site. Participants receive a 120-page manual and a copy of the Zing software. Minimum: 6 participants.
Course content: Day One plus Theory, Session Design, Advanced Software Skills (Vote, Sort, Action Plans, Navigate Multiple Layers), Session Customisation and preparing for a Solo Session.

Train the Trainer

Duration: Three days
Delivery: An accredited Master Trainer delivers the course at the trainer’s site. Participants receive a 180-page manual and a copy of the Zing software.
Minimum: 6 participants (usually 2 per customer)
Course Content: Day One and Day Two plus Advanced meeting Methods. Participants experience a selection of sessions and rehearse for a solo presentation. School Education course comprises: School Futures planning, Worldtime , Edutainments, Multiplayer Maths,
Writing Styles, Mindgym, Tricky Trigonometry, Good Guessing, Armchair Critic, Poetry Appreciation, Factors, Playwriting. Business course comprises Quick Plan, Stakeholder Plan, Separate Project Plans, Critique, Decisions Decisions, Problem Solving, Risk Analysis, Prioritising, Cross-Team Improvement, Team success method, Attacker’s Advantage process.

Annual Certification

Trainers who wish to continue to purchase manuals and train facilitators will now be expected to undertake recertification once a year. This will involve demonstrating a model session, an advanced session of their choice and a session of chosen by the Certifying Trainer. Trainers will also be expected to complete a short written assessment of their knowledge.
